Advantages and disadvantages of T8 LED tube

First of all, T8LED fluorescent lamps do not use mercury and do not contain lead. Traditional fluorescent lamps contain a large amount of mercury vapor. The protection of the environment is one of the recognized green light sources.

Secondly, the T8 LED fluorescent lamp is a cold light source, which does not emit as much heat as traditional lamps. It can basically convert all electrical energy into light energy without causing energy waste, which is very economical.

Thirdly, T8 LED fluorescent lamp is a very quiet energy-saving lamp, which does not produce noise like traditional fluorescent lamps, and is very suitable for quiet environments, such as libraries, offices and the like. It also protects the eyes very well, starts very quickly, does not flicker, and is very beneficial to our health.

In addition, because the T8 LED fluorescent lamp is a green and environmentally friendly lamp, it does not produce ultraviolet light, infrared light and other radiation, does not contain harmful substances such as mercury, and generates less heat, which well avoids mosquitoes surrounding the lamp source. Circumstances, this creates a relatively clean environment indoors.

Finally, the T8 LED fluorescent lamp has a long service life. Its power consumption is less than one-third of the traditional fluorescent lamp, but the brightness is the same as that of the traditional fluorescent lamp. Generally speaking, the life of normal use is more than 30,000 hours, and long-term use does not need to be replaced, which invisibly reduces labor costs and is very suitable for occasions where it is inconvenient to replace the lamps. Of course, the colors of LED fluorescent tubes are very rich, and lamps of various luminous colors can be made to meet the needs of different occasions.

Disadvantage

The only disadvantage of the T8 LED fluorescent lamp is its high price. However, although the price of the LED fluorescent lamp is about ten times that of the fluorescent lamp, it is still cost-effective if it is related to its lifespan, power saving and pollution-free point of view. Because if compared with a fluorescent lamp with a lifespan of 5,000 hours, an LED fluorescent lamp with a lifespan of 50,000 hours is already worth buying 10 times the price, and the energy saved in the meantime is a pure benefit.

Applicable scope of T8 LED tube

Generally used in general lighting, office buildings, shopping malls, restaurants, schools, homes, factories and other indoor lighting and so on.

In addition, LED (light-emitting diode) T8 tubes use solid semiconductor chips to produce luminescent materials. When a forward voltage is applied to both ends, the carrier fluid in the semiconductor recombines, releasing excess energy and causing photons to emit visible light. Advantages: high efficiency, pure light color, low energy consumption, durable and long life, safe and environmentally friendly, instant start-up, anti-vibration, cold light source, low heat on the surface of the lamp body for a long time, and good heat dissipation. Get close to the object without making it anxious. Based on this feature, LEDs can be placed horizontally or vertically above plants.

The main reason is that the light needed for photosynthesis of plants is different from the light we use for daily lighting. Plant growth requires the use of the sun’s light energy to assimilate carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) to produce organic matter and release oxygen. This process is called photosynthesis.

And only LED lights can meet the above conditions, because only LED lights can emit the spectrum needed for plant growth, and plants must have suitable light rays for photosynthesis. The spectrum range has an important impact on plant physiology.

Let’s take a look at the effects of different wavelengths on plants:

280 ~ 315nm: minimal impact on morphology and physiological processes;

315 ~ 400nm: Less chlorophyll absorption, which affects the photoperiod effect and prevents stem elongation;

400 ~ 520nm (blue): The absorption ratio of chlorophyll and carotenoids is the largest, and has the greatest impact on photosynthesis;

520 ~ 610nm (green): the absorption rate of the pigment is not high;

610 ~ 720nm (red): Low chlorophyll absorption rate, which has a significant impact on photosynthesis and photoperiod effects;

720 ~ 1000nm: Low absorption rate, stimulate cell elongation, affect flowering and seed germination> 1000nm: Convert into heat.

From the above data, different wavelengths of light have different effects on plant photosynthesis. The light required for plant photosynthesis has a wavelength of about 400 ~ 720nm. The light of 400 ~ 520nm (blue) and 610 ~ 720nm (red) contribute the most to photosynthesis. The light of 520 ~ 610nm (green) has a low absorption rate by plant pigments.

According to the above principles, plant lights are basically made into three forms of red and blue combination, full blue, and full red to provide light with two wavelengths of red and blue, covering the wavelength range required for photosynthesis. In terms of visual effects, the red and blue plant lights are pink.

When LED plant light supplements light to plants, the general power is less than 50w. LED plant light supplement light is usually 0.2~0.5 meters away from the main leaf surface of the plant for different plants. LED plant supplement light with power higher than 50w, for different plants, the height from the main leaf surface of the plant should be 0.5 ~ 1.2 meters. Based on the above situation, LED lamps are the most suitable lamps for plant lighting.

Introduction of T8 LED tube cover

The outer covers are basically PC covers, and basically no glass covers are used. They are all made of PC granules (chemical name: polycarbonate), and then mixed with diffusion powder.

The PC cover can be divided into transparent cover, transparent striped cover, diffused striped cover and milky white diffused cover according to the light transmittance.

Transparent cover: Gu Ming thought, the transparent cover is a transparent PC cover. The lamp tube made of this cover can see the lamp beads, which is very dazzling and easily dizzy, and does not meet the human requirements for light. The light transmission performance is good, and the light transmission rate can reach 91%.

Transparent striped cover: This kind of cover is a semi-transparent cover, which can diffuse the light, but the light is not uniform enough and will not dazzle the eyes. The light transmittance is about 88%.

Diffusion stripe cover: also called thick stripe cover, the light transmittance of this kind of shell is about 86%, the product made of this shell does not seem to have the feeling of dark area, and the influence of dark area is cleverly avoided.

Milky white diffuser: This cover is also used by most manufacturers on the market. The general light transmittance of this housing is 83-85%; the light transmittance below 83 is completely invisible.

Precautions

There are two situations for T8LED tube installation

  1. When installing, remove the original fluorescent lamp and replace it with an LED fluorescent lamp, and remove the ballast and starter, so that the 220V AC mains can be directly added to the two ends of the LED fluorescent lamp. (Common in EU)
  2. When installing, remove the original fluorescent lamp and replace it with an LED fluorescent lamp, and remove the ballast and starter, so that the 220V AC mains power is directly added to the same end of the LED fluorescent lamp. (American Standard)

Installation Precautions

  1. Installation:

T8LED tube comes with a constant current source, no ballast or starter is needed. Generally, for lamps above T8, because the lamp space is large enough, a constant current source can be installed in the lamp. Therefore, during installation, the ballast and starter in the original bracket can be removed without use, and the lamp tube can be installed directly.

T5 and T4 LED fluorescent lamps can not fit a constant current source because the tube is very small, so the constant current source can only be installed in the bracket. Therefore, the general manufacturer will configure the bracket when making T4\T5. The bracket is equipped with a constant current source. In addition, the tube is directional when installed. The direction is reversed, and the lamp does not light up. We are considering adding some conversion circuits so that the lamp can work normally even if the lamp is installed upside down.

  1. Voltage: Although the T8 LED lamp has a wide voltage adaptability, it can work normally for AC 85V-AC 245V. But long-term voltage is too high or too low, it will affect the power factor of the constant current source, that is to say, it will have a slight impact on the energy saving effect. At the same time, it will also affect the life of the constant current source. Therefore, it is generally necessary to choose a fluorescent tube with a suitable voltage. For example, where the city power is 110V, we should use our specially designed 110V city power fluorescent tube.
  2. Heat dissipation: The LED lamp is equipped with an aluminum heat dissipation shell. Under normal circumstances, there is no problem with heat dissipation. But if it is used in a place with heavy dust, it should be cleaned regularly to prevent dust from covering the radiator and affecting heat dissipation.
  3. Waterproof: LED fluorescent lamp is composed of upper and lower parts: the upper part is an aluminum radiator, and the lower part is a diffuser. There are gaps at the connection. Therefore, it is necessary to prevent oil smoke and water vapor from entering. If it is used in a place with heavy smoke and water vapor, it is recommended to add a protective cover. A general protective cover will do.
  4. Vibration: LED fluorescent lamp has strong anti-vibration ability. As long as it is not a violent impact, it will generally not cause damage. But it may affect the diffuser to some extent. The traditional fluorescent lamp is made of glass, and the inside is close to vacuum. Vibration may cause an explosion. Pay special attention to the vibration.

Applicable life of T8 tube

The T8LED tube saves more than 80% of electricity, and its life span is more than 10 times that of ordinary tubes. It is almost maintenance-free. There is no problem of frequent replacement of tubes, ballasts, and starters. The cost saved in about half a year is only Can be exchanged for cost. The green and environmentally friendly semiconductor electric light source, with soft light and pure spectrum, is beneficial to workers’ vision protection and physical health. The 6000K cold light source gives people a visually cool feeling, helps to concentrate and improve efficiency.

Related differences

In theory, T8 is brighter than T5, and the brightness will be higher if the diameter is larger.

Nearly 80% of fluorescent lamps in China are still T8, and supermarkets, hospitals, factories, assembly lines, offices, and schools are almost all T8 lamps.

With the development of science and technology, technology is being updated, the current T5 lamp can replace the T8 fluorescent lamp, and the illuminance, life and stability are far beyond the T8 fluorescent lamp. The most concern is energy conservation. The ratio of 28 to 36+9 is obvious. Enterprises benefit and the country saves energy.

Models below T4 cannot replace the brightness of T8, and cannot be commercialized for the time being and cannot be widely used.

T5 is a new style tube, T8 is an old style
