1. Traditional LED lighting installation

With the development of technology, the application of LED lighting in life has become very common. For example, stadium lights for large competition venues, street lights installed on highways in various countries, High Bay lights or UFO lights used for warehouse lighting, ect.

Due to the increasing demand for high-power lamps, the details requirements for installation are also more stringent. The traditional LED lighting installation is generally installed on an inherent building or fixed object, such as a wall, a ceiling, or a high pole, etc. This type of installation is relatively stable, and usually does not require additional expenditure to establish support points. But the shortcomings are also obvious. Once the lamps are installed, if needs to adjust the lights, it will be very difficult, and in case the lamps need to be replaced, it will consume a certain amount of manpower and cost. For some applications, the traditional lighting installation method is extremely inconvenient.

Therefore, the mobile light tower was born.

 

2. History of mobile light tower

Before the moving light tower came out, the concept of “moving light source” came from the moon. When we were children, we had a illusion that the moon was running with itself, illuminating the road for us all the time. So, people began to think of ways to build a “moon”.

An artificial moon needs three major elements: High, Bright, and Movable.

And this is the initial concept of the light tower.

 

How to move?

Early people’s understanding of movement is more about the movement of lights than the movement of towers. Due to the low level of mechanical construction technology, and insufficient investment in material development, people did not consider to make movement on the ”support points”, but chose to let the light rotate, so that the light can cover a certain area.

Later, with the rise of technology and economy, people’s requirements for life have become more refined. People’s demand for lighting is not just to have the light, but more stringently require that the light needs to reach where they want, and how it is after reaching. At the beginning, people tried to achieve the results they want by optimizing the installation position (for example, designing the position of the pole to achieve the best lighting reaching). But the problem is that the installation location for the lights is generally a fixed object or building, and it is difficult to move after it is basically determined. And then, people began to consider adjusting the lamp, for example, adjusting the installation angle of the lamp through the rotation of the bracket (Refer to the full-angle rotation bracket of Tachyon Tech, both horizontal and vertical directions can be arbitrarily rotated), combining different angles of lens to make the lights reach different distances , And even customizing the angles of module of the lights, and so on.

However, there is a more perfect solution, if the light source can be moved together with the installation position.  That is what we are introducing, the mobile light tower.

 

3. Composition of mobile Light tower

The traditional mobile light tower is a tower-like equipment, which is used to install lamps, and at the same time it is convenient to be moved. Almost always, the lights are mounted on poles, which are attached to trailers. The power supply is supplied by the generator. In the past, most of the lamps were metal halide lamps, and the generators were powered by diesel engines. Since its development, metal halide lamps have been gradually replaced by LED lamps. And batteries, solar energy, or hydrogen can also be used for power supply.

 

4. Application of Mobile light tower

Mobile light tower can be used for a variety of applications and services, such as the construction and maintenance of railways and motorways, airports, stadiums, hotels, resorts, properties, construction sites Lighting, search and rescue operations, exhibitions and refineries. Even under the unfavorable environment and severe weather conditions, like the remote and rugged places, and the importance of it will be highlighted especially.

For example,

Any firefighter knows that safety is an important priority for the safety in a rescue operation. When working on a fire, there must be some unforeseen obstacles on the ground and in the air, like the hoses, wires, manholes, etc. So they need more light to make rescue more efficiently. At this moment, the role of mobile light tower comes. It can be adjusted in time to reach the position where the firefighter wants to shine.

 

5. Traditional mobile light tower VS  Simplified mobile light tower

Traditional mobile lighthouse integrates the three functions into itself– illumination, power supply and mobility, which solves a lot of cumbersome illumination demand. However, due to the limitations and instability from the generators (DC generators), not all types of lamps can be suitable on the mobile light tower.  Most of the lamps on the market are working with AC current.

The widely used power supply,  such as Meanwell and Inventronic have not fully expanded the type on DC power supply yet. So this limitation actually make much impact on the traditional mobile light tower industry

Tachyon Tech’s simplified mobile light tower concept takes this point into account, removing the generator, to a certain extent avoiding the short board brought by the generator (eg, the limitations of DC current, the safety of the generator, etc.), and greatly reducing weight of the whole fixture, which brings good mobility and operability.

The lamps on the Tachyon Tech’s light tower need to be supplied by AC power supply, which means most LED lamps on the market can be used on it. And obviously, the disadvantage is that since it does not have a generator, it needs an additional power grid to ensure the work of the lamp.

However, in some non-large places such as warehouses or tennis courts, the simplified mobile light tower has its advantages over fixed roofs or poles. When workers need illumination from different angles, they can adjust the required lamps to the angle or position very quickly, so as to meet their needs as quickly as possible with minimum manpower and cost.

In general, mobile lighthouses will have more and more applications in the future. We believe that in terms of generators and lamps, there will be more types improved to match the requirement for market.
